The city council has approved design work to fix leaks in the eight-million-gallon drinking water reservoir on Jefferson Street and the valve at 5th and Miller.
The loan would go towards identifying all pipes and service connections installed before 1986, possibly containing galvanized steel pipes, copper pipes, or lead-soldered joints.
DOH representative Theresa Sanders said that the Cashmere School District is taking part in a century-long effort to reduce lead exposure and that the district is going above and beyond in addressing health concerns.
