Wenatchee Wild Stories – #21 Jason Stefanek
The Wenatchee Wild is a Junior A hockey team who play in the British Columbia Hockey League.
The BCHL is a great league to earn a full ride scholarship at Universities across North America.
The Wild play in the 4,300 seat Town Toyota Center. “The Wolves Den” has provided loud support during their play in the NAHL (North American Hockey League) from 2008 - 2015 and recently in the BCHL (from 2015 to present).
The Wenatchee Wild are led by Head Coach Chris Clark.
Our next edition of this season's Wenatchee Wild Stories - Features forward #21 Jason Stefanek. He is an 18 year old, playing in his first season with the Wild. Jason came to the Wild after playing two years at the Mt. Charles Academy in Rhode Island. Jason has committed to play Ivy League college hockey at Dartmouth College. He is a product of the Anaheim Jr Ducks Hockey program.
Connor: Jason, Thank you for talking with us. Where’s home?
Jason Stefanek: Yorba Linda, California (near Anaheim)
C: What is your favorite NHL team?
JS: My favorite NHL team is the Pittsburgh Penguins.
C: Who is your favorite NHL player and why?
JS: My favorite player is Sidney Crosby (center and captain for the Penguins) because he plays a 200-foot game, he’s a really good role model and he’s someone to look up to. I try to play my game after him.
C: What is your earliest memory of hockey?
JS: Probably scoring my first goal.
C: Who inspired you to want to play hockey at a higher level?
JS: My parents inspired me to play at a higher level – they’ve supported me through the whole process.
C: What do you like about Wenatchee?
JS: I love the people and the fan base, the restaurants and the hiking trails. Everything about it is really nice.
C: What are your favorite places to eat in Wenatchee and what do you order?
JS: Probably Sumo, and hibachi.
C: What is your favorite opposing arena to play at and why?
JS: Probably playing in Cranbrook and Penticton – their rinks are really nice, and their fans are really loud. It’s a nice environment to play in.
C: What is something Coach Clarky has taught you since you joined the Wenatchee Wild?
Jason Stefanek: Clarky’s taught me to really take care of the puck and sense what’s going on. You don’t always have to make a play every single time you have the puck, so I’ve been trying to work on that.
Connor: Thanks for visiting with us and thank you for playing your junior hockey here in Wenatchee! You can follow #21, Jason Stefanek on Instagram: @jasonstefanek
